Most decorating jobs go wrong somewhere between the quote and the first coat — a rushed estimate, a corner cut on preparation, a crew that doesn't quite finish the job before moving on to the next one. We built North & Coast around avoiding those gaps: a proper site visit before a price is given, a directly-employed crew rather than a rotating cast of subcontractors, and a final walk-round on every job before we call it done.
Fourteen years working on Tyneside terraces, coastal render in Tynemouth and Whitley Bay, and farmhouses further out into Northumberland has taught us which materials actually hold up here, and which ones look fine on the tin and fail within a winter. That local knowledge shapes every recommendation we make, from the paint system on a salt-exposed elevation to the plaster used on a lime-rendered Victorian wall.
Every quote follows a free, no-obligation visit — never a guess over the phone — and covers the whole job, including any repair work a wall or a piece of woodwork turns out to need. The figure you're given in writing is the figure the job costs. If something genuinely unexpected turns up once work starts, we tell you before doing anything about it, not after.
From a single repainted bedroom to a full commercial refit, we cover interior and exterior decorating, wallpapering, plastering and rendering repairs, woodwork and colour consultation — see the full breakdown of each service, including how we work and what it typically involves, on the services page.

Dust sheets down on the agreed date, tidy as we go, and a final walk-round before we call it done.
We regularly work on the large family and town houses around Darras Hall, Ponteland and Hexham, alongside terraces and flats closer to the city. Not on the list? Get in touch — we cover most of Northumberland and Tyne & Wear within a 30-mile radius.
"They dust-sheeted the whole house like it was a museum, and the finish on the staircase is the best we've seen."
